Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/2912 – “Two Jacks is a glamorous and romantic vision of Hollywood past and present ,” says director Bernard Rose. Two Jacks was one of the audience favorites at the prestigious Montreal World Film Festival getting a standing ovation from the audience. The festival that has previously played host to many acclaimed films such as last years winner Hasta LaVista (Come As You Are) directed by Rose and inspired by Leo Tolstoy’s short story Two Hussars. This is Rose’s fifth Tolstoy adaptation the others being; Anna Karenina, Ivans XTC, TheKreutzer Sonata and Boxing Day. Two Jacks stars Danny Huston, Sienna Miller, Jack Huston and Jacqueline Bisset as well as Billy Zane, Richard Portnow, Izabella Miko and Jamie Harris. The film is about the struggle of a son trying to follow in the footsteps of his famous movie director father and despite time and culture changing we learn that human nature remains the same.
Danny Huston who stars as Jack Hussar Sr. made his second visit to the Montreal Film Festival and, in fact last year he picked up the Best Actor Award for his part in Playoff and has long been a muse of director Bernard Rose having starred in all of Rose’s Tolstoy based films and is wonderfully charismatic and engaging in this one. Danny currently plays one of the leads in Starz’ Emmy nominated TV seriesMagic City, and also stars in a recently completed filmStolen alongside Nicolas Cage.
Sienna Miller has numerous awards and nominations to her name to date and stars as Diana, the love interest of the story. Sienna is probably most famous for her roles in Layer Cake, Alfie, Factory Girl, The Edge of Love and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra but frequently likes to work on independent films when the opportunity arises. Sienna’s other recent project is the Nick Cassavetes film entitledYellow, which recently premiered at Toronto.
Jack Huston, who stars as the younger Jack, has worked with director Bernard Rose before on his 2010 pictureMr Nice. He can also be seen as a series regular on HBO’s series Boardwalk Empire. Jack previously had starring roles in the teen thrillers Shroomsand Outlander as well as the record breaking Twilight franchise has been doing some quite spectacular work of late as well and making his mark as one of the top young actors on Hollywood’s casting lists is an actor i think we will be seeing a lot more of.
Jacqueline Bisset who stars as Diana in the second half of the film is a true screen icon with fans from the USA and across Europe, she is equally at home performing in French or English. Jacqueline is best known for her roles in Casino Royale (1967), Bullitt (1968),Airport (1970) and The Deep (1977). Whilst often acknowledged as a gifted comedienne, Bisset is well known for her dramatic performances, several of which have led to nominations for Emmy’s, Golden Globe and other international accolades.
The ‘Two Jacks’ themselves Danny and Jack Huston along with producer of the film Julia Verdin whose credits include Merchant ofVenice and Stander, had a great time at the festival – Danny said that what he admires about the Montreal Worldwide film festival was it’s diversity and that it has no cultural barriers allowing it to fully support auteur driven, unique independent films. Producer Julia Verdin shared her leading man’s excitement saying they were all thrilled and honored to be in this festival as the film was a passion project for everyone involved making it even more wonderful to screen this film at a genuine film lovers festival.
